The Parting

​In 1952 Herman Wald had to leave his  wife and children to embark upon  an overseas  trip. Their anguish is expressed in this double figure  of a  man  and a woman tied to each other  before  their separation. His head is bent down and his limp arms express defeat, sorrow and resignation, in contrast to the vigour and earthy heftiness  of both  figures.
